Resizing Videos with Movavi Video Converter

When you’re resizing a video, one of the most important things to keep in mind is the aspect ratio. The problem with resizing videos and altering their dimensions is that if the aspect ratio changes it can cause the video to look distorted, and stretched or compressed.

That is why you may want to consider using Movavi Video Converter to resize your videos. Not only will it make it easy to do so, but it will provide you with several different methods that you can use to ensure your videos look good once they’re resized.

To start to resize video, launch Movavi Video Converter and add the video that you want to resize by clicking on the ‘Add Media’ then ‘Add Video’. Next, open the ‘Video’ tab near the bottom of the interface and choose the format that you want to use.

In the main working area click on the ‘Settings’ cogwheel next to the ‘Output format’ field to adjust its size. Once you do, Movavi Video Converter will provide you with several options that you can use:

  • Automatic presets

There are four automatic presets that you can use to resize your video without altering its aspect ratio: Smart fit, up to size, ½ size and ¼ size. As you can guess the ½ size and ¼ size presets will resize the video to half or a quarter of its original size respectively.

On the other hand the ‘Smart fit’ will resize the video to the largest possible size that can fit within a frame of your choice without altering its aspect ratio. Similarly the ‘Up to size’ will shrink a video so that it fits within a frame of your choice, but won’t increase the size of videos that already fit.

  • Custom sizes

If you want to set a custom size, Movavi Video Converter will let you set the width and height that you want your video to be. It will then let you choose to resize the video using the stretch, letterbox, crop or auto method.

Assuming the aspect ratio is different, the ‘Stretch’ method will stretch or compress the video to fit and could distort its image while the letterbox won’t distort its image but will place black bars around the video. The crop method will cut off any parts that are larger than the output frame, while the auto method will use both stretch and crop to produce the best possible compromise.

By choosing these methods, you should be able to resize your video in the best way possible depending on your needs. That is part of the advantage of using Movavi Video Converter, and you should also take advantage of its other features to convert and optimize or even edit your video in other ways.
